During the first round of meetings with active members of the Party, held last week, the leader of the party and mayor of Orhei, Ilan Shor, made a series of statements on the program and presented his own vision on the development of the Republic of Moldova. The young politician spoke about the Party’s Program and the main components of its action plan aimed at bringing the economy, the social sphere, infrastructure and public administration out of the current crisis.
In particular, it is proposed to extend at national level the social projects successfully implemented in Orhei. Thus, the “SHOR” Party plans to adopt its programs “Social Stores”, “Social Housing”, “Capital Maternity” as mandatory national programs.
In terms of economic development, Ilan Shor advocates strengthening the role of the state in the strategic branches of the economy, to absolute monopoly in areas such as trade in tobacco and alcohol products, the energy sector, etc.
Another important activity is to save Moldovan villages and restore their production potential. For this to be possible, we need to restore, on a voluntary basis, large collective households equipped with machinery and technology, households that would benefit from state support, including secured purchases and profit distribution among all villagers. This will not only bring economic growth to the villages, but will also significantly improve the social well-being of their inhabitants, especially older people.
The action program of the “SHOR” Party also requires a 100% restoration of the minimum infrastructure – complete renovation of the roads in all localities and the restoration of the street lighting system in any village and town. The program will be implemented as soon as possible with the help of new technologies and quality materials.
According to Ilan Shor, an important role in the development process lies with the introduction of new governance practices at the state and local levels. According to the mayor of Orhei, “only a new power, close to the people, responsible and professional, will help build a new country.” A first concern of the “SHOR” Party will be the eradication of corruption, including the adoption of a stricter legal framework. As for the decision-making process, the authorities will rely on decisions taken by citizens’ assemblies and local referenda, which would become a common practice at the local level. The closeness of power and justice to people will also allow citizens to choose local prosecutors, judges and heads of territorial police.
Several experts have suggested that Ilan Shor’s participation in meetings with active party members, program objectives and the recent rise of the party talk about the beginning of active party work to fight for power. We recall that the main objectives of the “SHOR” Party are the social protection of citizens, the increase of the state’s role in the economy as well as in the social protection, the equitable distribution of wealth, as well as the responsibility and control over the authorities at all levels by the citizens.
The main political success of the party was the convincing and unexpected victory for many in the local elections in Orhei. Ilan Shor became mayor of the city and his team won the majority in the municipal council. For two years, Ilan Shor’s team managed not only to maintain voters’ confidence but also to implement multiple social and infrastructure projects, unique for our country. Many of these projects are also known outside the city.
