Moldovan parliament to host GUAM Parliamentary Assembly session

Moldovan Parliament will host the 11th session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly. The meeting will take place on 27-28 September, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Attending the event will be parliamentary delegations from Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova, as well as representatives of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (ODDE-GUAM) and the Baltic Assembly.

On the first day of the session, a meeting of the GUAM Parliamentary Committees and Bureau will be held, as well as a joint meeting of members of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly Bureau and the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly.

On 28 September, opening ceremony of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly session will be held. AP GUAM Head Vadim Pistrinciuc, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Head of Azerbaijani National Assembly Delegation to AP GUAM Azar Karimli, Head of Georgian Parliament Delegation to AP GUAM George Mosidze, Acting Head of Ukrainian Parliament Delegation to AP GUAM Ivan Krulko, President of the Baltic Assembly Valerijus Simulik, Secretary General of the Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development Altai Efendiev will address greeting messages at the event.

The talks will take place in three working panels, which will discuss the prospects of sectoral cooperation between ODDE-GUAM member states, ensuring information security in the region and the interaction of GUAM member states within international organizations. At the end, final documents of the session will be adopted.

Moldova holds the Chairmanship of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM during the current year.

Among the priorities of the presidency are actions to enhance sectoral interactions in economy, transport, energy, energy security, tourism, home affairs, use of opportunities and exchange of information in education, science, research and innovation, attracting investment, strengthening political dialogue between countries and increased international cooperation.

The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development was set up by signing on 23 May 2006, at the first Summit of GUAM Heads of State in Kiev, of its Statute (Charter). Until then, there was a consultative forum, founded in 1997 in Strasbourg by Presidents of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and the Republic of Moldova.

GUAM aims at developing cooperation between states by strengthening common stability and security in Europe.
