Adviser to the President Aureliu Chokoy presented Moldova at the Crans-Montana Forum

Aureliu Chokoy, adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova on foreign policy, said this in his speech at the opening of the Crans-Montana Forum.

“We almost every day witness tragic events that are taking place in different parts of the world. But approaches to solving problems, both at the global and regional levels, vary considerably. In the struggle against natural disasters, countries and peoples of the world usually find a common language, show solidarity and provide mutual assistance.

But in the issues of forming the world order, observing certain rules for ensuring universal security, maintaining peace and stability in the international arena, there is less mutual understanding and readiness to hear each other. Also, one does not always feel the desire to create a sustainable future for international relations.

As the head of a small country of the Republic of Moldova, I am worried about the situation when big players – great powers – cannot agree on mutual respect for each other’s interests. Small countries and sometimes whole regions are the first victims of such disagreements.

One of the vivid examples of this situation is the Balkan region, to which the Republic of Moldova, a full member of the Stability Pact in South-Eastern Europe, belongs to a certain degree. In our country, they are being watched with concern, both for the growing tensions in neighboring Ukraine and for the events in the Balkans.

We do not have confidence that the events taking place in recent years in different regions of Europe and the world, as well as existing challenges and threats that many countries face, can be overcome in the near future.

For all of us, the particularly difficult situation of small states is obvious. In this regard, I want to stress once again that holding events like this forum allows attracting attention of the global organizations, influential international players to the problems of small countries, and also contributes to the consolidation of small countries to protect their own interests.

Such an exchange of views, such a unity of minds and forces gives us hope for a gradual decrease in the degree of tension in international relations. Through the dialogue at a high level, we can stop the growing mechanism of confrontation; increase the level of interaction and mutual understanding, in order to avoid global crises and to prevent dangerous destabilization of world politics.

Moldova is one of those countries whose difficult situation is caused by another geopolitical gap between global players. We try to help in various ways to overcome the crisis that has arisen, to balance the interests of the West and the East with regard to our country. And we hope that we will be heard,” adviser Aureliu Chokoy said on behalf of the Head of State.
