Great poet Mihai Eminescu is commemorated today, who 129 years ago passed away. On this occasion, Prime Minister Pavel Filip laid flowers at the bust of Mihai Eminescu, located on Independence Square in Ungheni, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

“It is our duty to preserve the memory of this great cultural phenomenon that was Eminescu, an example of patriotism, a human and intellectual model,” Filip said.

Mihai Eminescu was born on 15 January 1850, in Botosani, and died at the age of 39, on 15 June 1889, in Bucharest.
