Chisinau city hall up to political opposition forces - Moldovan Democrats say

The Democratic Party of Moldova has congratulated the voters who voted in the first round and runoff of elections for Chisinau city hall. Their vote is a categorical one for maintaining the capital on the pro-European path, the Democrats said.

According to a press release by the PDM press service, “even if the vote was a strong geopolitical one, the important signal given by the voters in the capital is that Moldova remains a state with European aspirations and a desire for modernization”.

“The PDM called on citizens before the start of the election campaign and during the campaign, to vote against the Socialists and Liberals who destroyed the capital. There are the two parties that had the largest number of councilors in the Chisinau municipal council. We hope that after these results, there should be a change of attitude in CMC and work for Chisinau, and put an end to the fighting and political interests of any kind,” the communiqué reads.

The PDM noted the democratic way in which these elections were held for Chisinau city hall, “despite many speculations that were made before the first round and before the runoff”.

“What better proof of free elections can there be than that the opposition which has always complained of fraud, won them? PDM hopes that with the end of the Chisinau elections, the period of political instability in the capital will end, and the city hall will deal immediately with solving many problems in the city,” the press release reads.

On 3 June, the runoff of local elections for mayor’s office of Chisinau took place in the capital. After processing the 306 reports (100 per cent), candidate of the Dignity and Truth Party Andrei Nastase won the largest number of votes – 52.57 per cent of votes.
