Moldovan parliament speaker on visit to Georgia

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu is on a visit to Georgia on 25-27 May 2018, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.   

In Tbilisi, Andrian Candu will participate in an official ceremony organized by the Georgian authorities on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the first Georgian Democratic Republic.

Andrian Candu will discuss with Georgian officials including aspects dealing with the work of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine, parliament of Georgia and parliament of Moldova. On 24 May, the Moldovan parliament approved a decision, under which Moldova will take part in negotiations on the setting up of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly.

The works of the foundation of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly are to be held in Kiev, on 9 June 2018.

The Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, parliament of Georgia and parliament of Moldova will represent an inter-parliamentary consultative institution, set up in order to tackle subjects and drafts of common interest for the three countries. The goal of the Assembly will be to discuss challenges faced, transfer of good practices in the legislative process field, acceptance of joint positions in terms of foreign policy.

The idea of the foundation was set forth and accepted at a high-level inter-parliamentary conference, organized in partnership with the Atlantic Council in Chisinau, at an initiative by the speakers of the parliaments of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.
