The monthly office salaries of the public medical institutions’ employees will be indexed by 4.1 per cent starting from 1 April 2018, under a decision approved by the cabinet. Both medical employees (physicians, medical assistants, hospital attendants) and the administrative personnel, administrative civil servants and leadership staff, will benefit from increases, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Thus, while till present, the average monthly salary of a physician from a republican hospital has stood at 7,129.2 lei, beginning with 1 April this year, this wage will rise to 7,421.5 lei and the salary of a physician from a district hospital will grew from 6,263.2 lei to 6,520 lei.

The salaries of all categories of employees from public medical institutions will be increased according to the same algorithm. It is worth mentioning that the salaries of the employees of the nuclear medicine section, as well of the medical personnel involved in the psychiatry service will increase as well.

Through applying the salary increases, decision-makers aim to provide the medical system with the needed staff, motivate and keep young specialists and experienced staff, as well as to improve the quality of the medical assistance. As much as 110.2 million lei is necessary to this end; these financial means are identified in the mandatory health insurances accounts approved for 2018.

The increase in the salaries of the employees from the medical institutions has become possible due to a new mechanism of paying wages to the medical employees, approved in July 2016. Thus, on the period following 1 July 2016, the salaries of these employees grew, on average, by 30 per cent – from 20 per cent in the primary medicine up to more than 40 per cent in the district and municipal hospitals.

The concerned government decision sees also preservation of the salaries’ purchasing power through their annual indexation as of 1 April, according to the inflation rate.
