Ion Cheban is on a visit to the capital of Azerbaijan. Today he met with Hajibala Abutalybov, Baku Mayor.
Ion Cheban shared his impressions of Baku, noting that he had last visited the Azerbaijani capital in 2005 and so far the city has changed for the better. According to him, Baku is one of the most dynamically developing cities of the entire post-space area.
“The remarkable Heydar Aliyev airport, Olympic stadium, Sports Palace, 16-kilometer park along the embankment, Baku Crystal Hall, built specifically for the Eurovision Song Contest, Heydar Aliyev Center, original architecture, the “Flame Towers”, Boulevard of 25 kilometers, all this astonishes the imagination of all who have visited this city,”- said Cheban.
The Socialist stressed that unlike Baku, Chisinau continues to degrade due to “the efforts of the city authorities”.
“City authorities continue to disfigure the city with their incompetent decisions and distribution of land for chaotic development.
The current Baku is what we need to strive for in reforming our capital. And first of all, the question is in will, desire, competence and existence of a clear transformation plan. What I liked so much is the priorities of gardening. Almost everywhere where buildings were planned – they refused in favor of creating city parks and public places.
Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov offered Chisinau all-round assistance in the economic, urban, cultural, educational spheres. We will develop cooperation between the two capitals. I am convinced that we are able to transform Chisinau in the same way as Baku and many other beautiful cities were transformed. And we will do it.
I invited the mayor of Baku to visit Chisinau in the near future,” Cheban said at the end of the meeting.
