Moldovan president signs decree appointing new justice minister

President Igor Dodon today signed a decree appointing new Minister of Justice Victoria Iftodi.

According to the official, the decree was signed following a discussion with Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Victoria Iftodi.

“We talked about the urgent need to achieve real reforms in the justice sector. I personally know Mrs. Iftodi for a very long time. I believe that she is one of few people recommended by the parliamentary majority to meet the integrity criteria. I hope she will promote the necessary reforms in justice,” Dodon said.

The decree enters into force upon signature.

Victoria Iftodi was proposed to serve as Justice Minister by the Democratic Party of Moldova, after former minister Alexandru Tanase resigned.

The new minister of justice was born on 13 January 1969 in Lalova village, Rezina district, and graduated from the law faculty of the State University of Moldova. In 2004-2006 she held the position of Justice Minister and representative of the government in relations with the parliament and Constitutional Court. Subsequently, she served as Ambassador of Moldova to France and Algerian Republic, and since May 2017 is a judge at the Constitutional Court.
