Mihai Poalelungi appointed as judge of top court

Mihai Poalelungi was elected today by the Superior Council of Magistracy for the position of judge at the Constitutional Court. He was the only candidate enrolled in the contest and will be proposed for a six-year term.

Poalelungi’s candidacy will be proposed to parliament for approval. The MPs will have to note his resignation as chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice.

He will serve as judge at CCM, after Tudor Pantiru resigned as head and judge of the high-level forum in late January.

Poalelungi is in his second term in office at the CSJ, being appointed in February 2016. He previously held the position of deputy head of CSJ, and in 2008-2012 – judge at the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of Moldova.

The Constitutional Court has six judges, appointed for a six-year term. They are appointed by the parliament, government and Superior Council of Magistracy.
