Moldovan PM meets president of Belarus

The present stage of the Moldovan-Belarusian relations and possibilities of initiating new partnerships in sectors of mutual interest were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides highlighted the ascendant character of the relations between the two states, speaking out for continuing the dialogue at all levels. In particular, Pavel Filip and Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed the importance of continuing cooperating on the platform of the Moldovan-Belarusian inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation. The next meeting of the commission is to take place in Chisinau next year.

To give an impetus to the bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stressed the opportunity to liberalize the road goods transport, as well as the air transport. The prime minister showed confidence that the opening of a direct flight Chisinau-Minsk would boost even more the ties between the two states.

Among the sectors where there is an efficient and mutually advantageous cooperation, the officials emphasized the joint assembling of tractors and trolley busses. In the long run, busses are to be assembled in Chisinau too. At the same time, the sides displayed interest in carrying out joint investment projects in the wine, agro-industrial, zoo-technical and pharmaceutical sectors. Moldova is willing to take over the Belarusian experience in the development of livestock breeding complexes and Belarus is interested in the setting up of a joint venture for bottling  Moldovan wine and brandy.

Pavel Filip and Aleksandr Lukashenko appreciated the opportunity to organize business forums, which gives enterprises from the two countries possibility to establish direct contacts and initiate new projects. The officials spoke out for further strengthening the Moldovan-Belarusian partnership for the benefit of both states’ citizens. They stressed that the concrete results had been recorded through constructive dialogue.

In the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip invited Aleksandr Lukashenko to pay a visit to Moldova.
