Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met counterpart in Latvia, Mrs. Inara Murniece, in Riga on 4 December. They discussed strengthening interparliamentary relations, boosting exchange of experience between the Chisinau and Riga parliaments, strengthening institutional capacity and parliamentary control, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
“For Moldova, a country undergoing transformation, it is very important to have a good friend, who understands things and supports it. Certainly, Latvia is a good lawyer, a partner, a true and trustworthy friend who knows how things are in the region”, Candu said.
Inara Murniece appreciated the changes and synchronization of parliament and government agendas to modernize the country and deliver concrete results to citizens, and encouraged further progress.
“Reforms must be continued. We do daily reforms. What is good and current today, tomorrow may be already obsolete. Therefore we must always be one step ahead in order to create good living conditions for citizens”, the official said.
The sides also discussed the fight against propaganda and misinformation, a challenge that Latvia has to face. In this context, Candu told about the working group on parliamentary platform for modernization of media law, as well as the current law, which obliges broadcasting local products in peak audience hours.
At the end of the meeting, Candu invited Ināra Mūrniece to pay an official visit to Chisinau in spring.
