The government today appointed secretaries generals to offices in ministries.
According to Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the contest for filling these positions was not simple and the posts remain vacant for the Finance Ministry and Interior Ministry.
“The today appointments represent an important phase in the implementation of the government’s reform. In continuation, the secretaries general will be the persons on whom we will be able to rely most of all in ministries. Subsequently, we will hold the stage of selecting the state secretaries in ministries, depending on the fields. This exercises leads also to the depoliticizing of institutions, as the state secretaries general will focus their activity only on the functionality of ministries and reforms’ implementation.” Filip said.
According to the decisions approved, the director general of the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM), Iulia Costin-Iabanji will act as secretary general at the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, expert in law Anatolie Munteanu – at the Justice Ministry; diplomat Mihai Capatana – at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry; Moldova’s former military representative at the NATO Radu Burduja – at the Defence Ministry; a former deputy culture minister, university professor Igor Sarov – at the Education, Culture and Research Ministry; a former deputy minister from the Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry, employee at the UN Population Fund Boris Gilca – at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry; a former deputy minister at the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry Iurie Usurelu will act as secretary general at the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry.
According to the government’s reform, the offices of deputy minister were excluded and the administrative powers as to the activity of ministries will be taken over by the state secretaries, who will exercise the interim duties of minister, if necessary.
