The president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, after the traditional meeting held at the party’s head office, said the PDM will initiate the procedure for amending the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Democratic leader, the initiative is based on the September 9, 2014 judgment of the Constitutional Court, which specifies that the orientation to the European system of democratic values is a defining element of the constitutional identity of the Republic of Moldova. ”Given this decision, we decided to initiate the modification of the Constitution by introducing a reference that would clearly show that the European integration is the strategic orientation of the Republic of Moldova,” IPN quoted Vlad Plahotniuc as saying.

He also said that the amendment of the Constitution has been discussed inside the PDM for several months. “We do this because we want everyone to clearly understand that the European integration is the direction we follow and all the state institutions should act only in this direction, regardless of the political changes that will take place in the future or the interests of particular persons,” explained the Democratic leader.
